Common Documentation Gaps in Farm Compliance Programs
The record-keeping gaps consultants see most often in ILRP and farm water compliance — and how to close them.
Most compliance problems are documentation problems — not bad intent.
Frequent gaps
- Field records without maps — nitrogen applied to “north block” with no boundary on file
- Sampling without location context — lab results stored as PDFs, not tied to wells or fields
- Missing season boundaries — crop changes mid-year not reflected in records
- Consultant copies — grower data duplicated in spreadsheets that drift apart
- Late data entry — events recorded from memory at reporting time
Closing gaps practically
Start with one ranch and one season. Get fields, crops, and major applications correct. Add sampling and documents next. Do not wait for a perfect system before entering this season’s data.
